- What it looks like
- Columns that spiral or twist like rope or a twisted cable. Undulating, especially when relaxed. With alternate-row colour changes, two-tone barber-pole stripes appear.
- How it behaves
- Twisted vertical columns, strong when relaxed.
- How it works
- The same as sections, but the group boundaries shift by about half a group on the return traverse, so leftward and rightward passes use different groupings.
- Machines
- Single bed, hold.
- Parameters
- offset (≈g/2); colour alternation per full traverse (cut and reinsert the yarn each time, since it ends on the opposite side).
- Steps
- As pk-sections-wave, but redefine the groups with an offset for the return traverse.
- Charting
- Two group-letter rows (outbound and return) with offset dashed lines.
- Limits and common problems
- Hard to track; map it on paper first.
- Combines with
- stripes, shrink yarns.
- Pieces and assembly
- Rope or column effects in a panel.
