A notebook for machine knitters
Purlbed turns the bed chart you draw into everything else your technical book needs: needle notation, row sequence, a printable page, punch cards, and a rough look at how the fabric will behave.
Made for knit students and home-machine knitters: single-bed machines (punch card, electronic or manual), single beds with a ribber, and double-bed machines such as hand flats.
What it does
- Draw front-bed, back-bed and double-jersey cells with Apple Pencil, in 6-needle modules, 120 needles by default.
- Get the needle notation worked out for you: bed changes become transfer arrows, sideways shifts become hooked arrows.
- Keep yarn, plating yarn, tension and carriage direction for every row, and read them back as a row sequence.
- Export an A4 technical-book page as PNG or PDF, with a box to pin the swatch, stitch and row braces, and the first steps.
- Design 24-stitch punch cards, preview them across 200 needles, and print a 1:1 punching template or a Cricut cut file.
- Colour a standard chart at your gauge, in a drawing app or on paper, and bring it back as an editable bed chart.
- See an approximate relief preview: ribs pulling in, single-bed panels bulging, folds, stretch-yarn ripples.
- Read about 100 technique cards, and try the beta planner that suggests four ways to knit each part of an image.
Your work stays with you
Everything runs in your browser. Swatches are saved on this device only; export a JSON backup to move them. The optional AI suggestions use your own Anthropic API key, kept in this browser and sent only to Anthropic.
What is still being checked
The relief preview, the planner's options and the punch-card hole sizes are marked approximate or unverified until they have been compared with real knitting.
