What it looks like
A herringbone in which some V-bands sit close together and others are separated by long stretches of plain vertical pleating, giving a stepped, rhythmic silhouette.
How it behaves
Folds compactly at the V-bands. The long plain zones open like a plain accordion, so the outline is stepped.
How it works
As for herringbone-fold, with different Hgap values between successive V-bands.
Machines
As for herringbone-fold.
Parameters
A sequence of Hgap_i values, e.g. short, then long (≈40 rows on fine gauge), then short.
Steps
Work the herringbone template, taking Hgap from the sequence for each band.
Charting
As for the herringbone, with unequal plain zones.
Limits and common problems
Long plain zones in loose yarn sag.
Combines with
herringbone-fold.
Pieces and assembly
As for herringbone-fold.
