Jacquard (Fair Isle) › Single-bed jacquard (floats at the back)
Elongation / double length
The motif appears twice as tall. Every card row is knitted twice, so the pattern looks smoother vertically and compensates for squashed Fair Isle proportions.

The full card
- What it looks like
- The motif appears twice as tall. Every card row is knitted twice, so the pattern looks smoother vertically and compensates for squashed Fair Isle proportions.
- How it behaves
- As the base stitch.
- How it works
- On machines with an intermittent card-feed position, the card advances on one direction of travel only (KH-891: card rotates only when the K carriage moves right to left). The same selection is used for two rows.
- Machines
- Built in: KH-830 (intermittent feeding lever in service manual), KH-836 ("expand pattern two times"), KH-891, KH-260 (long-triangle lever position), some SR models. KH-821: no. [inference, high] Workaround [inference]: toggle the card lock lever by hand, locked for one pass and rotating for the next, or punch each row twice on the card.
- Parameters
- ×2 only. Tuck/slip stacks double in height, so the vertical limits halve (e.g. ≤ 2 card rows of stacked tuck). 1. Carriage on the right. 2. Before each left-to-right pass, set the lock lever to ● (the same row is reselected). 3. Before each right-to-left pass, set it to rotate. 4. Or simply punch a doubled card.
- Card design rules
- If punching a doubled card, the card length doubles; check the 24-wide repeat still loops properly.
- Charting
- Draw the design rows once and mark "×2 rows". On the card, each design row appears as 2 identical rows.
- Limits and common problems
- Forgetting a toggle shifts the pattern by one row. Doubling tuck rows breaks the 4-row limit.
- Combines with
- Fair Isle (aspect correction), mosaic, tuck (carefully).
