Jacquard (Fair Isle) › Double-bed jacquard (no floats)
DBJ with plain (solid) backing
Back: one solid colour. Face: the motif; the motif colour may grin through less than with stripes. The ribber knits only during the passes of the "back" colour and slips during the other colour's passes. On Brother this means reversing the ribber PART buttons by hand at each colour change.
- Two beds
- Needle selection

- What it looks like
- Back: one solid colour. Face: the motif; the motif colour may grin through less than with stripes.
- How it behaves
- Double layer. The backing can be a different fibre (e.g. felting wool behind a non-felting face, then fulled).
- How it works
- The ribber knits only during the passes of the "back" colour and slips during the other colour's passes. On Brother this means reversing the ribber PART buttons by hand at each colour change.
- Machines
- Any ribber; manual lever change every 2 passes (tedious without automation). Colour changer recommended.
- Parameters
- back colour = one of the design colours or a dedicated extra colour; ribber row count per design row = 2 (back colour only).
- Steps
- 1) Set up as DBJ. 2) Back-colour passes: ribber PART buttons down (knit). 3) Other-colour passes: ribber PART up (slip). 4) Change colour and flip the ribber settings at the left every 2 passes.
- Charting
- Backing chart = one solid colour cell per ribber row; pass column marks "RB knit" / "RB slip".
- Limits and common problems
- Long floats inside the fabric for the non-back colour where the main bed does not select it. Fine in short motifs; large solid areas of the non-back colour make tunnels [inference].
