1. Make your standard chart

4000 × 3226 px. Each square is one stitch, drawn at your gauge, so shapes look the way they knit. Bold lines every 6 needles and every 10 rows; 0 marks the centre of the bed.

How to use it

  1. 1Open it as a canvasDownload the PNG and open it in your drawing app as a new canvas. In Procreate use Import or Photo; in other apps open it from Photos or Files.
  2. 2Colour on a new layerAdd a layer above the chart and fill squares with solid, opaque colour: cyan for the front bed, violet for both beds. Leave the back bed empty. Outlines between areas are fine.
  3. 3Keep the corners, hide your guidesDon't cover the four pink squares: they line the grid up again. Hide any helper layers you added, such as a guide grid or numbers.
  4. PNG4Export and bring it backExport as PNG (in Procreate: Share, then PNG) and choose it in step 2 below.
Try the example firstA small chart already coloured by the key: a violet double-jersey band at the bottom and a cyan front-bed diamond on a back-bed ground. Load it to see what comes back.

2. Bring your coloured chart back

A PNG exported from a drawing app, or a photo of the printed chart. Photos of older charts work too.
